How does the sizing work?
-All pictures on the website are display pieces and other customer's pets. Each piece is custom and unique so each piece will be slightly different in diemensions due to individual paw print characteristics but the listed size is an approximate size which includes the print and it's surrounding metal. The standard thickness for each piece is 1.25 millimeters except earrings and phrames. If you would like a custom thickness please specify.

How long does it take for my piece to be made?
times varies with complexitiy but an estimate will be given at time of purchase. Time estimates generally includes a buffer period and may be completed in less time. Personal deadlines are welcome and taken into account. Typical timelines include:
-4-6 weeks on average for standard pieces (ie Charms, Medallions, Military Style Dog Tags etc.)
-8-10 weeks on average for custom pendents
-12 weeks on average for etched pieces
-6 months for keepsake lockets

Why does it take so long?

- It is important to remember that a single artist is making your piece. The qualities of this piece are personalized and custom as well as homemade so beside the stamp nothing is factory made or streamlined in a manufactured kind of sense.
Pieces are made in an organized order based on who has shown interest first and thus take priority over other pieces. If a deadline is included in a piece that is of course factored in as well.
After editing your print, I must receive approval from you to send the stamp out therefore up to this point, is dependent on the owner. In times after shows or other big events I try to send out prints to the stamp company in batches of at least five. When it comes to the stamps, Precious Paw Prints Jewelry helps support The Cerebral Palsy Group of San Diego. Because Precious Paw Prints is located in Pennsylvania it takes at least a week for stamps to be sent to us but keep in mind that the stamp company is also a business and does get backed up once in awhile with other orders.
Once I receive the stamp I am able to continue with the process. The quick part is cutting paw printing, sanding and inscribing the piece.
Firing the piece is the second longest process. Time in the kiln depends on the metal. Even though for example copper needs to fire for 3-3.5 hours a ramping up and cooling down period could be another 1-2 hours in addition to the firing time.
After firing, the piece must be scrubbed to remove oxidation and other left over particles. Following that the piece must be tumbled to get a basic shine. Then it must be polished with a dremal to take out any small scratches and be as shiny and perfect as possible.
This is the basic process for all medallion pieces. I set a standard 4-6 week for a single piece but please keep in mind when I have more than 1-4 pieces, this process could take longer due to the stamp, firing and polishing time. From start to finish the process could take some time. Unfortunately, unseen things happen like a piece breaks, an etch doesn't come out right or a piece warps during firing. However due to my involvement in this process I keep you constantly updated through out the process via email or other communication method of your choice. My dedication to customization and homemade perfection is important to me and your experience with Precious Paw Prints Jewelry. I hope that this little article will help you appreciate and further understand the process of how Precious Paw Prints Jewelry creates your piece.
