If you don’t already, watching your companion’s feces is extremely important. It can be very telling on what they are eating, how they are feeling and if they need more or less of a particular ingredient. When raw feeding you will notice a decrease in the frequency, size and smell of your companion’s feces.
Normal feces should be small, firm and brown with little to no smell
Consistency:
Very hard and white- too much bone
Loose- to little bone and/or too much fat
Loose and stinky-too much organ
Colors:
White-too much bone
Yellow-diet is high in chicken
Dark brown- consumption of red meats and organs which are blood rich
Size:
Large-less of the food stuff is being absorbed and used
Small- more of the food stuff is being absorbed and used
Other Things in It:
Mucous-can be seen in companions new to raw feeding as the body is protecting itself from any dangerous items. This will decrease as your companion adjusts.
Worms-more times than not indicates a detoxification of the body and typically (if meat is properly sourced and kept) is NOT caused from raw feeding.
Not poop related but, due to the high moisture content of raw feeding, while your companion will produce feces less frequently, their urine production will increase. This is completely normal and healthy!
