Canine and Feline Nutrition Book Review

This book was recommended when I was taking Canine Diet formulation courses. I also chose this book to get insight into some things veterinary students are learning in veterinary school. This book was originally published in 1995. I purchased the 3rd edition which was published in 2010.

Honestly I was a little disappointed with this book. There was certainly valuable information in the book but it was heavily based towards relying simply on pet food companies for proper nutrition. Pretty much all the studies sited were done on companions that are kibble fed, so although this gives insight into the pet food industry and the diet of most companions, it didn't shed any light on comparables with raw feeding. In fact the book completely discounts raw feeding assuming the feeder is ill informed and gives no advice on how to properly raw feed. Yet throughout the book I have noted countless times (with pretty green sticky notes) that animal protiens and little/too no carbohydrates is the way to go. It is like the information is there but the connection of logical dots doesn't exist.

I hope someday there will be a book written in similar format that not only speaks highly of raw feeding but also sites funded studies on raw feeding. All the information on all types of feeding should be provided to pet owners so they can make the best informed decision about what they are feeding their companion.
